With 1998 marking the end of the Porsche 993 generation, people were eager to purchase the final batch of these 911s that retained Porsche’s Luftgekühlt (air-cooled) heritage. Upon arriving at Canepa, the car was inspected from front to back. Unsurprising for a car with only 11,835 miles since new, this 993 presents as though it just left the Porsche factory assembly line. Its original Guards Red paint has the same amazing sheen as delivered from the factory, the black leather interior shows no discernable wear, while the entire car still feels tight and new. The 3.6-liter flat six engine fires up and purrs, with the 6-speed manual transmission effortlessly shifting gears. As nice as the car was, Canepa applied the “Canepa Difference” and went the extra distance to ensure that the car was completely spotless. The car’s belly pans were removed to clean underneath, getting all the crevices to ensure no dirt remained. Upon cleaning, you can see the factory coatings underneath that look in as-new condition. With the underside clean, the topside of the 993 was addressed with only a simple foam pad-only polish to enhance the paint’s depth. With the trunk, interior and engine bay cleaned, the car now presents as though it was just delivered on that first day to the husband’s wife.
With the final production year of the 993 being so sought after, especially C2Ss, this time-capsule of a 911 is a perfect opportunity to experience what a modern air-cooled Porsche is like.
