In 1995, the Porsche 993 Turbo made its debut in the automotive industry and instantly became a classic. The car soon gained notoriety for its astounding performance thanks to its air-cooled 408 horsepower twin-turbocharged flat six engine and all-wheel drive technology that was an evolution from the fabled supercar the Porsche 959. The 993 Turbo is the pinnacle of performance, technology, and comfort and the last hurrah of air-cooled Porsches, outperforming sports cars that cost two or more times as much while keeping the driver and passengers fully comfortable.
This 911 Turbo was completed at the Porsche factory in December 1996, spec’d in very rare Glacier White paint with full Grey leather interior. It was optioned from the factory with an aluminum shifter knob and hand brake handle, stainless steel door entry guards, alu-look instrument dials with chrome surrounds, heated front seats, an electric sunroof, cruise control, and numerous other items. The car’s first owner took delivery of the car in Claymont, Delaware then drove the car to his home in New Jersey where he and the Turbo would reside until 2015. With just 4,626 miles, the second owner would only add an additional 300 miles. As soon as the most recent owner purchased this 993 Turbo, he had the vehicle delivered to Canepa for a complete comprehensive service, Canepa Porsche original equipment upgrades and concours preparation.
This owner, in addition to purchasing his low-mileage 993, had some ideas that he wanted to include in addition to servicing and detailing every inch of this all-original Turbo. Along with Canepa’s experience and expertise with subtle and tasteful updates to vehicles, a number of exquisite upgrades were completed in the process. The front bumper cover was replaced with a european spec bumper, eliminating license plate holes and the U.S. bumper guards, removing the visual distraction from the European air intake vents and corner lights. The rear bumper cover was removed and replaced with a new factory European bumper cover, eliminating the U.S. bumper guards. The factory hollow spoke wheels and wheel center caps were refinished in “Liquid Metal Silver” 4-stage paint, a $7,500 upgrade. The entire exhaust system was removed and refinished in Graphite Cerakote including Black Cerakote exhaust tips.
Canepa took the Turbo and lowered it to the European standard ride height while maintaining the original ride quality, including a 4-wheel corner weight and alignment. The brake rotors and hats were refinished in Black Zinc hot coat to eliminate the otherwise unfinished look of standard rotors. The original equipment factory Brembo brake calipers refinished to a much higher quality finish, albeit to the original factory color. And as a finishing touch, new Porsche “Classic” carpet mats were installed. Once all work was completed, a visually-updated 993 Turbo, still retained the OEM look of the classic 911.
Upon returning to Canepa, the 911 Turbo was in the same exact condition that it was in when all of its previous updates had been performed. The factory original paint was in stunning condition, the Grey Leather interior in concours-level condition, the Liquid Metal Silver hollow spoke wheels looking freshly painted, and the entire car’s OEM+ look was the perfect amount of additional cool that this 993 Turbo needed. Now ready for its next owner to either drive to a car show, present and win, or to just drive the wheels off it while taking long road trips and backroad jaunts, this 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo is the way to celebrate the end of the air-cooled generation with fun and style at the forefront.
