The Mercedes Benz E-Class was designed to fit a wide range of needs with the luxurious features Mercedes Benz is known for. The E refers to Einspritzmotor (Fuel Injection) which became readily available in the mid-1960s. In 1993, Mercedes debuted the E-Class and it was a success in the automotive market. In 1995, Mercedes launched their second generation of the E-Class for the U.S. market, which included Cabriolets. This example featured a 3.2-liter engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This car is one of only 3,676 E320 Cabriolets built for the 1995 model year.
Red Skelton was the famous comedian host of The Red Skelton Show from 1951 to 1970. In the early 90s, Red and his wife Lothian decided to retire in Southern California. During this transition, Lothian Skelton would watch her local CBS news, where charismatic Jerry Dunphy was one of the hosts. When Lothian later learned that Jerry Dunphy owned a E320 Cabriolet, she decided she wanted the same car. In 2000, Lothian drove to a Los Angeles dealership where she purchased this E320 Cabriolet. It was optioned with Polar White paint, tan leather interior, and a dark brown convertible top. This E320 came equipped with MB Exquisit radio, cruise control, anti-theft system, automatic climate control, headlight washer/wiper, and active bass speaker system.
Lothian drove the car less than 800 miles per year, cruising the California highways with the top down and enjoying its comfortable ride. The car was serviced across multiple Mercedes specialized centers and maintained in its original, like-new condition throughout the years.
Upon arriving at Canepa, vehicles are treated to the "Canepa Difference" This includes a complete mechanical inspection. Everything is serviced as needed, and road tested by Bruce Canepa. It is finished off with a concours show quality detail. The entire underside was washed, along with the engine bay and trunk area, with the interior receiving the same exacting treatment to leave every surface spotless. The Polar White paint was polished using only foam pads and light polishes, enhancing the shine of the original paint finish.
This spectacular Mercedes Benz Cabriolet is ready for its next owner to slide into its leather seat, top down, and take it for another ride in the sunshine!
