1987 Porsche 959
VIN: WP0ZZZ95ZHS900021
Purchased on 9/1/1987 directly from Porsche by Juliane Scherf from Gelsenkirchen, Germany. According to its maintenance book the 959 got is first service a month later at Porsche Werk I at 1,762km.
The car was brought to the US around 1999 by Paul Russell and Company for their client, Chris Hutchins. This was in the early days after the implementation of the new “Show or Display” law, and the 959 took over a year to be released to its new owner. Not pleased with the stock tri-color interior, Hutchins had Paul Russell install the current custom tan leather interior.
After only a couple of years of ownership the car would change hands to the renowned collector, Ervin "Bud" F. Lyon III. Bud had a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, was a MIT scientist, a professor, an entrepreneur, a skilled aviator, and a world-class car enthusiast and collector. He owned over 100 classic and exotic automobiles over his lifetime, and particularly prized Porsches. Shortly after receiving his 959, Bud turned his new prized possession over to Canepa for all of our 959 upgrades.
Starting in December 2003, with 10,089 km (6,269 miles) on the odometer, work began on outfitting the 959 with the Canepa Gen One engine upgrade, along with our upgraded 959S suspension package, the Canepa wheels and tire upgrade, HID headlamps, Werks 1 steering wheel, a US speedometer, and all the factory recommended upgrades and modifications.
Lyons would own and show the car for the next few years, and in 2009 the 959 would move to its most current owner. Although the car would cover less than 1,000 miles during his ownership it would be immensely well maintained with fluid changes, brake caliper rebuild, fuel tank flush, and front shock rebuild.
Now back at Canepa it was decided to outfit 900021 with the final Canepa Gen Two 959 engine conversion. By upgrading the turbos, engine management systems, exhaust, and over 200 additional elements the output of the car is raised to a breathtaking 640hp. That power will propel this all-wheel drive supercar to 60mph in under 3 seconds, and top out over 215 mph.
The last recipient of the Canepa Gen Two 959 upgrades, this car holds a special place in 959 history. Fully concours detailed and ready to show, or, it the new owner is so inclined, ready to push past 200 mph.
