As a luxury vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz 450SLC was a car well ahead of its time. Standard options included air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, leather seating, and electric sunroof. With advanced crumple zone technology, it was also one of the safest cars in the world. The 450SLC started production in late 1972 and continue through in 1980. The wheelbase, offered a comfortable ride, with great handling for high speeds. The 450SLC is now a highly collectible car, due to its timeless styling and luxury. It is the representation of what a true classic Mercedes Benz should be in the modern era.
Maria Durkee originally ordered this particular 450SLC at her local Mercedes-Benz dealership in Reno, Nevada. She ordered the 450SLC in Blue Metallic over beige leather interior. Mrs. Durkee arrived in Germany and took delivery of the 450SLC on February 9th, 1976 and proceeded to drive it to E.H. Harms and Co. in Switzerland, where they arranged the shipping to San Francisco, CA.
When the 450SLC arrived in San Francisco in 1976, Mrs. Durkee collected the car and drove to her hometown of Reno, Nevada. Since then, she drove the SLC less than 1,100 miles per year during her 46 years in ownership. She regularly took the 450SLC to Reno Imports LTD for servicing and maintenance and kept many of the service records, some dating back to 1980. In 2018, Mrs. Durkee sold the 450SLC to its current owner.
