1974 Dino 246 GTS
VIN: 08480
08480 is one of the last 246 Dinos built, and one of only 313 Dino GTS built in its final year of 1974. A USA model, it was delivered from the factory in black with a tan interior, power windows, air conditioning, and Daytona seats.
Its first recorded owner was Terry Beye of Florida. He owned the car until 1984 when it was purchased by Carlisle Marshall, also of Florida. Marshall would own the car until 1995 and sold the car, with only 17454 miles on it, to George Shelly, again of Florida. After enjoying the car for a decade, in 2006 Shelly disassembled the 20,406-mile car with the intent of a full restoration. After the transmission was fully rebuilt by Tim Stanford of Foreign Cars, Inc. the restoration effort stalled. For the next four years 08480 would sit in storage with it parts neatly organized on an extensive shelving system.
In 2010 Harry Allen saw the potential in completing 08480, purchased the car, and had it shipped to him in Southern California. Once received by Allen the Dino underwent a complete and comprehensive restoration. Bruce Marquand of Classic Competition was responsible for the engine, brakes, and electrical. Thomas Pocius of Thomas’ Auto Trim refitted the car with a new leather Daytona interior, and carpets. Steve Beckman of Beckman Metal Works took the Dino down to bare metal, prepped the body, and gave it a show winning paint job. Jim McKay of JM Designs stripped and correctly refinished the original Cromadora wheels.
The restoration would take a little over a year, and to test the level of work in May of 2011 the car was entered into the Concorso Ferrari in Pasadena, CA. The restoration team was thrilled when 08480 received a Platinum award on its first time out.
This rare, black 8000 series Dino comes with its complete books, jack, tools, and wheel chock. Since arriving at Canepa the Dino has received a thorough inspection and concours level detailing.
