1964 Jaguar XKE
VIN: 880433
The new Jaguar roadster unveiled at the March 1961 Geneva Auto Show looked more like a racer than a production model, and it was, indeed, based on a racer - Jaguar's own D-Type. Known as the E-Type in Europe, and called the XK-E in the United States, it was the first true production car that could surpass 150 mph.
When the XKE debuted Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made." The accolades continue to this day with the E-Type being recognized as the Top Sportscar from the 60's, and even being featured in the permanent collection at the New York City Museum of Modern Art.
In 2005 Martin Johnson, a professional Jaguar restorer from Arizona, restored this Series 1 E-Type. The XK-E was stripped down to bare metal and given a comprehensive, no expense spared restoration with excellent attention to detail.
The engine rebuild included new pistons, bearings, oil pump, timing chains, and valves. The suspension and drive train received new wheel bearings, universal joints, hub bearings, seals, and sleeved calipers by White Post Restorations. The electrical was sorted with a new wiring harness, and all the instruments were rebuilt. The car was painted with PPG paints, along with all new body seals installed.
During the restoration the decision was made to install an updated, fully-synchronized transmission from the later 4.2 liter XKE. Other updates include a stainless steel exhaust system, upgraded starter, and new show quality chrome 6-inch wide wheels with 205 Bridgestone radial tires.
During assembly a new and correct biscuit leather interior was installed. The top bows were restored and a new convertible top was fitted. Every effort was made to insure the final fitting was as good as Jaguar had intended, or better.
880433 comes with its matching numbers, 265 hp 3.8-liter straight six engine and runs beautifully. Also delivered with the car are its correct tools and jack. This stunning Series 1 E-Type has been thoroughly inspected by the technicians at Canepa, and is ready for you to slip on your driving gloves and take a spin in the car Enzo wish he had made.
