1958 Porsche 356 Speedster
VIN: 84095
Built on November 11, 1957 this Speedster was destined for the US market being optioned with US spec headlights, bumpers, and speedometer.
The first previous owner of record was Clarence Cotter of Chicago who purchased the car on May 21st 1964. Mr. Cotter would own the Speedster for the next 49 years. Yes, 49 years. It is hard for most folks to imagine owning anything for 49 years, but Cotter would keep the Speedster just shy of half a century. At first the car was a road car for Mr. Cotter, but at some point the racing bug bit him and the car’s focus changed to that of a racecar. About 25 years ago the car was put into storage still in that configuration.
All good things must come to an end, and the Speedster was sold to its new owner, Tom Scott, on December, 13th 2013. Tom Scott is the owner of 356 Consulting in Denver, CO, and is a renowned 356 restoration expert and PCA judge whose cars have won the Porsche Parade Best of Show several times including a Speedster as Best of Show.
Scott immediately began a bare metal restoration of this Speedster, which still had it matching engine. Every element of the car was addressed during the process with the intention that the car be as meticulous mechanically as it is cosmetically flawless. It was returned to it original and stunning color combination of Meissen Blue with a red interior.
During the restoration an enthusiast in Canada contacted Scott, and he sold the car to him with the understanding that Scott would complete the restoration for him. The restoration was completed in December 2014. The car was shown at the 2015 Dana Point Porsche concours event and scored 298.0 points (out of 300) the first time it was judged. The Speedster has only covered 41 miles since it restoration.
1958 was the last year of 356 Speedster production, and approximately only 552 were produced. Here is an excellent opportunity to be the next caretaker of a concours level, restored Speedster with over fifty years of continuous ownership history.
