The 1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Outlaw is not just a car; it's a testament to the golden era of automotive craftsmanship and innovation. Born from the legendary lineage of the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT series, this Outlaw edition is a modern-day marvel that pays homage to its illustrious past.
The original Aurelias, equipped with the pioneering V6 engines, quickly became the darlings of the racing circuit. Their prowess on the track during events like the 1951 Mille Miglia cemented their reputation as formidable sports cars. As demand soared, the Aurelia B20GT evolved over six distinct series, each iteration capturing the essence of Gran Turismo.
The idea of an "Outlaw" Aurelia B20GT, a car restored with modern upgrades without the constraints of traditional restoration norms, was brought to life by Thornley Kelham of Gloucestershire. Drawing inspiration from the "Bracco" Aurelia B20GT, a race car that clinched victories at the Mille Miglia and Le Mans in 1951, the Outlaw edition was envisioned. The Bracco's distinctive chopped roof, aimed at enhancing aerodynamics, became a signature feature of the Outlaw.
Thornley Kelham's meticulous craftsmanship is evident in every curve and contour of this Outlaw. No detail was overlooked, from the widened fenders and Jaguar D-type style wheels to the custom exhaust and upgraded steering rack. The 2.8-liter engine, now fuel-injected, offers a robust 225hp, ensuring a thrilling drive.
This particular Outlaw, chassis #2, has the distinction of being owned by Danny Sullivan, the racing legend and 1985 Indianapolis 500 champion. Sullivan's personal touches, including Ferrari seats, Tilton pedal assembly, and a smaller Lancia steering wheel, make this car truly unique. The hand-formed sloping roofline, reminiscent of classic American cars, adds to its allure.
With only 4,113 miles clocked, this Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Outlaw is a testament to the joys of driving. Now housed at Canepa, it awaits a discerning owner who appreciates its rich history and unparalleled craftsmanship.
Handcrafted with precision and passion, the 1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Outlaw stands as a tribute to the legacy of Lancia and the timeless allure of classic cars.
