Only 348 427 Cobras were built by Shelby American and this car is the fourth from the last car built. It incorporates all the final updates and improvements and it is one of only six 427s that was never modified from their stock delivered configuration. It is powered by the famous Ford 427 “side oiler”.
The car was delivered new to Stark Hickey Ford in Royal Oak, MI on October 18, 1967. In the past 42 years the car was driven only 24834 miles. The fourth owner painted the car Wimbledon white with Guardsman blue stripes in 1983. At the 2002 SAAC Mid America meet it won the survivor class and was later displayed in the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, CO.
Canepa Restoration Canepa design has just completed a true “body off” restoration. All work was done “in house” with the exception of the engine, which was entrusted to T.O.E (Tony Oddo) Engineering.
The car was completely disassembled down to the last nut and bolt, the body was then very carefully removed from the chassis and placed on a special wooden support while the chassis was cleaned, restored, and refinished. The original aluminum body was stripped, cleaned, and restored before it was placed back on the chassis and re-riveted using the original holes. No new holes were drilled in the body or chassis during this process.
All new interior aluminum panels were fabricated including the dash, floor, trunk, inner fenders and firewall. The original fiberglass foot boxes and trunk well were restored and re-gelcoated. All panel fit and gaps were perfected and the body was finished in Jade Green.
The engine, transmission, and differential have been completely rebuilt. Suspension and brake components were crack checked, restored and refinished to new condition. All of the original hardware has been carefully re-plated and restored to period correct Cobra finishes. The wheels are the original Pete Brock designed “Sunburst” cast aluminum units originally delivered on this car.
The vinyl upholstery material on the dash, doors, and rear interior panel is totally original. The seats have been rebuilt but the original leather seat covers have been retained. A modern thermal barrier and insulation has been carefully installed throughout the cockpit. It is completely hidden from view and does not distract from the originality of the car. New factory correct carpets were also installed. Wiring harnesses, lights, instruments, switches, latches, trim, bumpers, pedals, etc. are all restored to as new condition.
