Ordered on December 8th of 1965, the Blue 1966 Shelby GT350 was bound for Harr Motor
Company in Worcester, Massachusetts and shipped on December 29th, 1965. Invoiced for
$3,514, the car was also orderedwith white Lemans stripes and rear seats. Charles Powell
would become the first owner of the GT350, paying $4,725 on March 5th, 1966. Charles would
then own the Blue Shelby for 6 years before it would find its new owner, Ken Roskin of New
Britain, Connecticut on December 27th, 1972.
When Roskin purchased the car, the Shelby would remain in his possession for nearly four
decades and during this time be treated to a full restoration. The car's paint was removed and
the original blue metallic paint was applied along with the white Lemans stripes. The engine,
transmission, differential and interior were removed at the same time, allowing for a proper
repaint. Pictures show the GT350 after its restoration, including interior photos. Roskin would
keep the car until the car changed hands in 2012, and Charles Christensen of Newport Coast,
California, on November 19th, 2012 would then obtain the car.
Christensen was intent on driving the GT350, evident in that he spent over $15,000 in
mechanical maintenance bringing the car back to how it would have driven off the dealer lot.
Highlights include a complete transmission rebuild in 2015, a complete engine tune up,
including overhauling the carburetor, adjusting valves, re-curving the distributor, and timing the
engine. Christensen would own the car for a little more than 5 years before the Shelby would
arrive at Canepa in March of 2018.
Upon arriving at Canepa, the Shelby GT350 was inspected meticulously and began a week-long
reconditioning. The blue metallic paint was polished to a stunning shine using only the best
polishes and foam pads. The engine bay was cleaned by hand, with each and crevice being
addressed. Underneath the Shelby was cleaned by hand to restore the finishes to factory-like
quality. Now this documented Shelby, fully restored and recently mechanically refreshed, is
ready for backroads, late night cruising or just a little bit of stoplight drag action.
