The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray was the last Corvette of the second generation (C2) Vettes, and five years of refinements made it the best of the line, and possibly the best Corvette ever. It was certainly the cleanest Sting Ray ever. Five smaller front fender vents replaced the three larger ones, and flat-finish rockers sans ribbing conferred a lower, less chunky appearance. New, and thus unique, was a single backup light, mounted above the license plate. The previous models' old-fashioned wheel covers gave way to slotted six-inch Rally wheels with chrome beauty rings and lug nuts concealed behind small chrome caps. Interior alterations included revised upholstery.
Purchased new by a Doctor in Bakersfield California the car was ordered with some unique options. The Doctor specifically ordered the car with the high performance 327 engine because he liked the handling of the lighter weight car. He also ordered it with air conditioning due to the warm dry climate of the California central valley. There were only 1400 Marina blue roadsters made in 1967 and it is estimated that only 200 were built with the same option package as this car.
After four years of enjoyment the car was sold to its second owner also of Bakersfield. He would keep the car until 1990 when it was sold to a Jim Lindsay. Lindsay decided to have a full concours restoration done on the car. He contracted the Naber Brothers of Houston Texas for the project. They completely disassembled the car down to the last nut and bolt even pulling the body off the frame. During the restoration it was mandated that all the original equipment be retained. Today the car is “numbers matching” and totally period correct.
Lindsay sold the car to Los Angeles Times Publisher Otis Chandler for his museum in 1997. It was kept on display for the next 4 years.
Its current owner has kept the car in climate controlled storage in southern California, taking it out for short runs on a monthly basis. Since the restoration was complete the car has only been driven a little over 1000 miles. The car is in spectacular condition both cosmetically and mechanically. It comes with both the optional hard top and the soft top allowing the owner to set it up for any weather condition.
Power comes from the more powerful of the two small block 327 cid engines offered in 1967. The L79 produces 350HP and 360 ft/lb of torque with 0-60 times of 7 seconds.
The options on this car include:
Soft Ray Tinted Windshield
Power windows
Hardtop (matched to body color)
Air Conditioning
Four Speed Manual Transmission
Positraction Rear Axle
Power Brakes
Power Steering
AM/FM Radio
